Venography and embolization are procedures performed to relieve pelvic pain and congestion from abnormal venous blood flow in females or infertility in males. This is done as an outpatient procedure under sedation.

What is pelvic congestion/varicocele embolization?

This is a minimally invasive image guided procedure to treat abnormal venous blood flow in the pelvis and either females were males. In females, the abnormal blood flow results in pain in the pelvis and urinary frequency. In males, this causes infertility.

How is the procedure performed?

Patient’s are given mild sedation through an IV inserted in the arm during the procedure. An interventional radiologist makes a small incision in the groin and threads a catheter into the veins. Images were obtained with contrast under x-ray. If abnormal blood flow is detected, the veins can be blocked with special devices to correct the blood flow and alleviate the symptoms.

How can I schedule an exam?

Our interventional radiologist offer the full spectrum of care including preprocedural consultation, postprocedural care and when necessary, hospital admission. All patients can schedule an office visit to consult with the radiologist to discuss treatment options before performing any procedure.
